Our Approach

Dancing Digits unique approach, pedagogy and curriculum

What is the Dancing Digits learning programme?

The Dancing Digits learning programme integrates creative dance techniques with early maths development, bringing maths to life through movement and dance. This is based on embodied learning — learning by doing — which helps children experience and truly understand concepts in a physical and memorable way.

What do children do during a Dancing Digits class?

During every Dancing Digits class, children will enjoy a variety of fun, creative dance activities, all thoughtfully designed to support early maths development. They will learn set movement routines, improvise with ribbon sticks and scarves, dance and count in rhythm with maracas, tambourines and lots more! Colourful props, up-beat music and bright symbols add fun and help to engage all children.

The Dancing Digits Curriclum

The Dancing Digits curriculum is a fully developed set of activities designed to support the learning and development of young children. It combines movement and dance with early maths in a fun and engaging way. The programme offers age- and level-specific session plans for nurseries, schools, and parent-child classes in the community.

We currently offer four age-related programmes:

  • Toddlers (ages 2–3)
  • Preschoolers (ages 3–4)
  • Reception-aged children (ages 4–5), and
  • Year 1 pupils (ages 5–6).

These programmes can also be tailored for use with SEND children in schools and nurseries.

Why it works

The whole Dancing Digits concept is grounded in research into movement-based learning and embodied cognition.

Studies show that combining physical activity with cognitive tasks – especially in the early years – can boost memory, attention, and conceptual understanding.

By involving the whole body in learning, our multi-sensory sessions help children grasp maths ideas in a meaningful, lasting way – not just memorise them.
