Dance-Powered Early Maths: How Dancing Digits Helps Children Love Learning
At Dancing Digits, we believe that learning isn’t just about sitting still and memorizing facts — it’s about moving, feeling, and experiencing. For over 30 years, I’ve been passionate about helping children fall in love with learning through dance, movement, and creative play. That’s why I created Dancing Digits: an award-winning, dance-powered early maths programme designed to build essential maths skills while keeping kids active, engaged, and having fun!
Why Movement Matters in Learning
Research consistently shows that embodied learning — using our bodies to understand concepts — makes a huge difference in how children grasp foundational skills, especially in subjects like maths. When children move their bodies to explore numbers and patterns, they develop spatial intelligence, improve memory recall, and build confidence.
My 30 years of working in schools, nurseries, and educational settings have taught me that traditional classroom methods often miss the magic of movement. Dancing Digits fills that gap, blending the joy of dance with proven learning strategies to create a multi-sensory experience that sparks curiosity and motivation.

How Dancing Digits Works
Each session combines catchy dance routines with counting, number recognition, and early maths concepts — all embedded within fun movement and creative dance. Children move their bodies to rhythm and music, which helps make abstract ideas concrete and memorable.
The Early Years programme is designed for children aged 2 to 5 years, preparing them for school with confidence and positive memories of maths. We also offer tailored sessions for pupils in school (age 4-7yrs) and SEND children, where movement and engagement can unlock potential in truly transformational ways.
Backed by Research and Experience
Dancing Digits isn’t just a fun dance class — it’s built on solid research and has been tested extensively with children in nurseries and schools. Many of its activities and exercises were developed with support from The Education Endowment Foundation, which has helped us explore how movement-based energisers can significantly boost maths engagement and confidence in primary pupils.
Creating a Community of Movement and Learning
Beyond teaching, I’m dedicated to building a community that values creative, embodied learning. From working with nursery owners to partnering with dance schools, Dancing Digits is growing into a movement of educators and parents who want to see children thrive through joyful learning.
